NOTES:

  1. Substack is neither a private nor a trustworthy platform. While here, please use private mode or a privacy-respecting browser, which you can find at Privacy Guides.
  2. ✅ means vetted resources; however, use your critical thinking skills. Entities change their policies often.
  3. If you see errors, please pardon me. I’m doing this alone. But do let me know at hithere at professionalcontrarian dot com.
  4. Much appreciation and thanks to those who curated content before we did. We know how hard it is to maintain resources guides. Let us pick up that torch for you.

A Note about Signing Pledges and Putting your Name on Petitions

  • Unfortunately, most pledges and petitions are nothing more than data collection tools, even from the organizations we trust most. Many do use this information for advocacy, but organizations and companies use your information for marketing purposes.
  • Even if you support the cause, most organizations use payment processing software that links directly to political parties such as Act Blue,
  • If you opt to sign a pledge or petition, READ THEIR PRIVACY POLICY FIRST. Do a find in the page for the word “third” for third parties. See if they plan to share or sell your information to other companies or organizations. Also, read what their policies say about data protection and retention. Data breaches happen all the time. While even the most-privacy respecting organizations will do what they can to protect your data, the best way to protect yourself from data breaches is to not put your information out there in the first place.
  • Abortion organizations pop-up frequently. Some are grassroots organizations that aren’t up to speed on privacy requirements. Additionally, they may be using third-party tools to get their information out there. For instance, this website uses WordPress. That means everything we post is subject to WordPress’ policies. We cannot control WordPress. So, we can’t say to you that your data is 100% safe when you visit our website or click on any links.
  • This is especially true of any organizations using Google Forms to collect your data such as abortion stories. Be VERY WARY of anything connecting directly to Google, Meta, Amazon, or Apple.
  • We will do our best not to link to any pledges or petitions. However, we ask you to use your critical thinking skills before signing up for anything.
  • To that end, we also will not provide a separate section for volunteering. If you want to volunteer, do check in with any of the linked organizations. If you’re able, go in to offer assistance. Otherwise, be wary of providing your information on an unsecured contact form or on a Google Form.

I will update this resource as I gain more information. Please consider it perpetually under construction. If you have anything to add, please email me at hithere at professionalcontrarian dot com.
